Award ceremony for the “Let’s Recycle” School Marathon 2021 – 2022
On Friday, June 03, 2022, at 19:00 the award ceremony of the schools of the Municipality of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands was held in a festive atmosphere and with particular success in the “Garden of the People”, for their participation in the awareness campaign “Let’s Recycle” 2021-2022.
In the area, interactive games were placed for the young students on the topic of recycling and composting.
It is reminded that the school action was implemented for the 3rd year in primary education and for the first year in Secondary education. 3,531 students from 36 school units participated in the action, who with the help of parents and teachers recycled four streams of materials (paper, plastic, aluminum, and batteries).
More specifically, they gathered in total:
Paper: 5,600 kg
Plastic: 560 kg
Batteries: 12 kg
Aluminum: 205 kg
During the award ceremony, the first place schools in recycling materials and reward points each received a utility gift and a prize for their school unit. In addition, all the schools and students who participated in the actions received participation praise from the Municipality for their commendable effort.
It is worth noting that the support of the schools by the members of the Municipality’s municipal recycling platform, Followgreen, was extremely high, as a total donation of 20,500 reward points was made. The above school actions were implemented as part of the Followgreen initiative in collaboration with the Directorate of Primary & Secondary Education of Corfu.
The Mayor, during her speech at the award ceremony, congratulated the students for the impressive results they achieved, as they proved that recycling has now become part of their everyday life. In addition, he thanked the Hellenic Recycling Utilization Association (EEAA) and the aluminum recycling program “Every Box Counts” for their contribution to the School Marathon.
The award ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of European Programmes, Development & Digital Governance, Ms. Panagiota Tzanne, and the mandated advisor for education issues, Ms. Maria Zervou.
The Mayor of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands renewed the appointment with the students for the next school year, aiming for even better results and even more participation.
