The project “Energy Upgrade of school buildings of the Municipality of Corfu” which concerns five large school units of our city was signed by the Mayor of Central Corfu and the Diapontian Islands, Meropi Ydraiou, with the contractor of the project. The implementation of this project will drastically change the schools as extensive interventions are foreseen related to energy saving and the provision of quality operating conditions for the school community.

The interventions will take place in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd General Lyceum as well as in the 6th and 7th Primary School of D.E. Corfu, and with their completion to improve to the maximum the external appearance of the buildings and the comfort conditions for the student and educational community.

The aim of the project, whose integration budget amounts to 2,325,500.00 euros, is to reduce the thermal losses and mental loads due to school buildings and consequently the energy consumption that will be completed by the improvement of energy behavior. of school units. The thermal insulation interventions that will be made, in:

-Installation of external thermal insulation on the wider surface of buildings.

-Installation of heat on the roofs and floors of the ground floor countries.

-Replacement of the old frames with new ones which will be made of a composite profile of aluminum frame with thermal break and double energy glazing.

-Replacement of luminaires with new high efficiency, LED technology.

During today’s signing of the contract, Mayor Meropi Ydraiou, expressing her satisfaction, thanked the Deputy Mayor of Technical Services N. Kalogeros and the officials of the Directorate for the completion of the contracting procedures as well as the subsequent implementation of the project.

Addressing the representative of the contractor company, she expressed the wish that the work is done perfectly, smoothly, and on schedule so that soon, as she characteristically said, “the student and educational community will operate in optimal conditions.” He added that this project is extremely important and for the additional reason that the need to reduce energy consumption is now more urgent and urgent than ever.

It is noted that the project is funded by the Regional Operational Program Ionian Islands 2014-2020, the contractual completion time is 18 months and work to begin immediately with the summer months during which schools are closed.
