The Deputy Mayor for Cleaning of the Municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontian Islands announces the following:

“In the context of the beginning of the tourist season and given that the island of Corfu is one of the top tourist destinations in Greece, we must all, Municipality and citizens, work together to keep our island clean 24 hours a day.

Our Municipality, having carried out a complex of actions that are in progress and include the reorganization of its services, the renewal and strengthening of its equipment, and its cooperation with external partners, seeks to ensure the best cleaning services for our city and all Municipal Units.

To avoid the accumulation of large amounts of waste that causes a strong odor and is a source of pollution and degradation of the urban, natural and cultural environment, we ask all residents of our city not to take out their waste during the day but only between 20:00 and 23:00 in the evening.

Also, the garbage that is placed in the green bins should be in tied bags and everyone is reminded to close the lids of the bins. For recyclable packaging, it is noted that they should be compressed before being freely disposed of in the blue bins, in order to significantly reduce their volume.

According to the Cleaning Regulation that is in force, any violator of the above will be charged with a corresponding fine.

It is up to all of us to avoid the ugly and defamatory images that we have unfortunately experienced in the recent past.

Happy Easter to all. “
