The Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, as part of the Energy Transition Week and in collaboration with the Energy Regulatory Authority (RAE), will carry out from May 10 to May 13, 2022, interactive actions to inform and raise awareness among the school community about the importance of energy, the new perspectives that arise in our region as well as the specialties that are directly intertwined with the energy transition. More specifically:

  • the phenomenon of climate change,
  • the concept of energy transition in the islands,
  • the energy crisis and how it affects the islands,
  • smart grids,
  • smart homes,
  • the electric drive,
  • the development of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and their benefits in the islands,
  • energy saving, etc. 

The planned actions include an information session at the Municipal Theater for the 3rd grade of the High Schools of the Municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontian Islands on Tuesday, May 10, while from Wednesday, May 11 to Friday, May 13, visits will be made to the Diapontian Islands, where they are expected to operate soon and Energy Communities.

The presentations will be made with modern audio-visual material by RAE’s Specialist Scientist and Director of Public Relations, Dr. Dionysis Papachristou, Electrical Engineer NTUA, who has presented these topics both in the context of the International Exhibitions of Thessaloniki from 2016 until today, as well as in a multitude of schools in Attica and the rest of Greece (Thessaloniki, Grevena, Ioannina, Naoussa, etc.).

Finally, it is noted that on behalf of the Municipality, present throughout the activities were the Deputy Mayor for European Programmes, Development and Digital Governance, Mrs. Panagiota Tzanne (Project Manager), and the Scientific Advisor, Mr. Victor Dimoulis (Assistant Project Manager), since this specific action is part of the participation of the Municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontia Islands in the “100 Intelligent Cities Challenge” programme of the European Commission, where the Municipality participates with a secondary thematic axis of “Smart and Green Energy”.
