Start of the School Recycling Marathon “Let’s Recycle” – For the 4th consecutive year by the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands -Mayor Ydraiou: “protecting the environment is a condition of life for all of us”.
The opening kick of the School Recycling Marathon was given today by the Special Vocational Gymnasium-Lyceum by the Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Meropi Ydraiou, in the presence of the Deputy Mayor Panagiota Tzanne, the Deputy Education Advisor Maria Zervou and of course students and teachers of the school. This important recycling awareness initiative is being continued by the Central Municipality for the 4th consecutive year as part of the “Followgreen” programme.
The Mayor, addressing the children, expressed her joy at the great interest in participation and emphasized that protecting the environment is a condition of life in order to be able to live on this planet with quality and dignity. He also pointed out that the Municipality will continue the multifaceted effort to raise awareness not only of the school community but also of society in general.
It is noted that the Special Vocational Gymnasium-Lyceum of Corfu, from where the start of the recycling program was symbolically given today, has now been moved from the problematic building of Korakiana and is housed in a new place with modern infrastructure in the area of Kefalomantoukou. In fact, the mandated Education advisor Maria Zervou expressed her joy at the achievement of this goal, while Deputy Mayor Panagiota Tzanne declared the intention to include further modernization of the school through an Interreg programme.
Now, about the “Let’s Recycle” programme, again this year all the schools of the central Municipality are participating where they will carry out a separate sorting for recycling paper, aluminum, plastic, and batteries in special separate bins within the school units.
The recycling performance of each school will be recorded on a special page of followgreen.gr, while it will be possible to support the schools by donating points from the members of the platform.
As every year, at the end of the school year, the Municipality will reward all participating school units. At today’s opening, special thanks were expressed to the aluminum recycling programme “Every Box Counts” for the support they provide to the recycling action again this year.
The Municipality invites all schools that have not registered their participation to do so within the next few days.
