Medicines
General information
Nearly 1,900,000 people in Greece today live below the poverty line, as a result of which, they face enormous difficulties in meeting basic needs, such as access to the medicines they need. The paradox is that at the same time about 34,000,000 boxes of medicine expire in the homes of the citizens of our country every year.

How to save/ reuse
The Municipality of Central Corfu & the Diapontian Islands recently signed onto a strategic cooperation with GIVMED (givmed.org) for the prevention of waste generation from non-expired medicine and the corresponding feedback of the Social Pharmacy of our Municipality.
Through this cooperation, the Social Pharmacy of the Municipality is included in a "digital network" of the supply of medicine throughout the nation, through which the citizens will be consistently informed of where they will be able to dispose of the surplus of their non-expired medicine.
Thus, the citizens will have the opportunity to show their social sensitivity to their fellow humans but at the same time to be a part of the Municipality, resulting in a real prevention of waste from medicine as required by the European Directives.
It should be highlighted that the cooperation of the Municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontian Islands concerns the disposal of non-expired medicine exclusively. The interested citizens can offer the aforementioned medicine after connecting to the website of GIVMED free of charge, which can be found at the relevant addresses in the “External links and files” field.
