The Municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontia Islands is gradually replacing all the pre-existing incandescent lamps with lighting elements and lamps of new LED technology. This project substantially improves municipal lighting, reduces operating costs, and at the same time consumes incomparably smaller amounts of energy.

The electric lighting crews of the Municipality have already carried out change interventions in most of the city of Corfu and according to the corresponding planning, there will be a replacement of the lighting that will take place in the communities of the Municipality.

The goal is to replace all the old lighting fixtures and lamps, a project which will be an innovation for our island. With the modernization of the network, the quality of the street lighting will be improved, but at the same time, the energy consumption for the lighting of the city streets and the communities of the Municipality will be reduced.

The reduction of the total energy consumption leads in turn to the reduction of the carbon footprint which translates into the necessary protection of the environment for all. The Municipality will save significant amounts of money from the operating costs that it will spend on street lighting, as LED luminaires have a much longer lifespan so the maintenance costs of the network will be reduced in the long run.
