The Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands participates in the European Week for Waste Reduction 2022
“For 5 days, the heart of recycling will beat in the center of Corfu,” says in a statement the Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, Meropi Υdraiou.
From Monday, November 21 and until Friday, November 25, the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands is implementing a comprehensive program of actions for recycling as part of its participation in the European Week for Waste Reduction, in collaboration with the “Electrocycle”.
From 8 in the morning to 3.30 in the afternoon in one of the most central parts of the city of Corfu, at it is the entrance of the Municipal Theatre, the Municipality will have special bins for the separate collection of the following waste streams such as:
-lamps,
– ink cartridges – toner,
-small electronic and electrical devices,
-household batteries (batteries).
Citizens and students of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands will be able to visit the specific temporary separate collection point for electronic and electrical equipment and batteries and hand in all the electronic and small electrical devices they have and wish to recycle and also be informed more generally (with appropriate information material) regarding their recycling.
At the same time, they can also be informed about the permanent separate collection points that have been created in the Municipality. They will also be able to be informed about the separate battery collection program, which is also implemented in our Municipality.
Given that this year’s “European Week for Waste Reduction” is dedicated to “Sustainable Textile Products”, both citizens and students of our Municipality, if they wish, can also bring used clothes, shoes, and general textile products with them and recycle them.
There is a permanent special bin for the separate collection of used clothes, next to the Municipal Theatre, next to the Community Center of the Municipality, in which they can discard them but they can also be informed about the other permanent separate collection points that have been created in our Municipality.
Every day, recycling takes increasingly big and important steps in the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, with the necessary awareness and participation of our fellow citizens for the better protection of the environment of our island.
