The Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands joins the programme “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030”
Significant and positive progress for the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands was sealed today with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Municipality and the Ministry of Energy and Environment.
With this signature, the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands joins the “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030” programme. Through this specific programme, the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands can secure significant EU resources with many environmental, social, economic, developmental, and educational benefits.
Essentially, with EU funding, the cities participating in the specific programme will be able to implement investments and accelerate their transition to climate neutrality and their digital transformation, promote holistic solutions in their urban planning, implement smart technologies and flexible management systems energy, and to adopt environmentally friendly modes of movement and transport.
Also, the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, through its participation in this specific programme, will have the opportunity to participate in major innovation actions and related pilot projects. The objectives of the programme are, among others, also the following:
-The implementation of the European Green Deal for environmental and sustainable development policies in cities.
– The dominance of human rhythms in cities and settlements.
The Memorandum of Cooperation on behalf of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands was signed by the Deputy Mayor of European Programmes, Development, and e-Governance, Mrs Panagiota Tzanne.
